A Brief History

We provide mosquito control services with a history dating back to October 14, 1952, when citizens of the Panama City Beach area voted to create The Gulf Mosquito Control District. Renamed The Beach Mosquito Control District in early 1997, we operate under Chapter 388 of the Florida Statutes and Rule 5E-13 of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Governed by three elected commissioners serving four-year terms, we are funded through local ad valorem taxes. Our focus is on controlling disease-bearing arthropods and nuisance insects to improve residents' comfort, health, and welfare.

Our Integrated Mosquito Management Methods

  • Source Reduction - We eliminate breeding sites like tires, pools, tarps, boats, bird baths, buckets, and plant trays to control mosquitoes at their source.
  • Larviciding - We apply environmentally friendly products in habitats to control mosquitoes before they mature into biting adults.
  • Adulticiding - We conduct ground and aerial ULV spraying to control flying adult mosquitoes effectively.
  • Public Awareness - We conduct outreach and education programs to engage and educate residents about mosquito management techniques.

Our mission is to protect public health and welfare by using science-based, environmentally sensitive mosquito control services. Through education, surveillance, source reduction, biological control, and the judicious use of EPA approved pesticides, we strive to enhance the quality of life for district residents.
