Beach Mosquito Control is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic biologist to work at our district!
We offer 4-day work weeks, PTO, and a very generous benefits package.
At BMCD, our entomologist:
- Identifies arthropods, with a focus on larval and adult mosquitoes
- Creates technical reports for data on mosquito collections
- Manages a Gambusia (mosquito fish) biological control program
- Performs operational tests for insecticide efficacy and resistance
- Manages an arbovirus surveillance program
- Manages a mosquito trapping program
- Assists the Public Relations department
- Other duties as assigned
Must have:
- A bachelor’s degree in a biological science or related field, master’s degree preferred
- A valid Florida driver’s license
.3 years’ experience in the biological sciences or related field
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc)
- Proficient in the identification of arthropods, mosquito identification skills preferred
- Proficiency in standard laboratory equipment (microscope, micropipettes, incubators, scales, etc)
- Knowledge of terminology, principles, and techniques used in biological research
- Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate a small team effectively
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative teamwork spirit in working relationships with others
